Birthday Boy

As most of you know, the oldest boy had a birthday this weekend.

Don't get me started on how quickly time seems to have passed by...

In keeping with tradition, we decided to get Michael the one thing he wanted most - a treasure hunt!

With the "treasure" being his birthday present, of course.

And this time, you can follow along! Kevin did an amazing job, once again, creating a fun, challenging series of clues and a unique way of delivering them, too. If you have an iphone, you can get this free bar code app and then use it to scan the bar codes in this post to read the clues - just like Michael did!

Except, obviously, he used Kevin's phone.

Kevin handed Michael the first clue to scan:

First clue: There are ten clues hidden for your tenth birthday. Find them all to find your gift. This is your first, the next one is about to blast off!

Right away, Michael knew to look in his Space Shuttle Lego...

And clue number two...
Second clue: Find your next clue with the guy who came after you.

And "the guy who came after him" was Thomas, of course!

Who handed over the next clue...
Third clue: Now find a clue that is spinning, spinning, spinning in circles.

Hmmm...he wasn't too sure about this one...

Oh, yes - the ceiling fan!

Spinning on it was the next clue...
Fourth clue: The Furry Plant Depositer is an illusionist.

What?!?!

"Furry" (or hairy) "Plant Depositer" (a potter) = Harry Potter!

 (I didn't get it, either).

Inside the Harry Potter book was the next clue...
Fifth clue: Substitution code 13.1.20.20.8.5.23

He needed a little help with this one, too...

But eventually worked out that he needed to substitute a letter of the alphabet for each number...

Which would spell...

Anyone?

No?

Matthew!

Little brother had the next clue in his pocket...
Sixth clue: Jesus is the answer.

Michael was pretty quick to look here...

Where he could see the next clue...
Seventh clue: Find a peanut.

He went to the pantry to find a jar of peanuts...

And found it!

But no clue.

After some thought, he remembered that mommy and daddy often refer to baby Benjamin as a little peanut...

This "peanut" had the next clue in his pocket...
Eighth clue: The next clue is a real fender bender.

Hmmm...

Well, where would you find a fender?

Yup. Outside.

On the van!

Nope. No clue there...

It was under the truck bumper...
Ninth clue: Go the park and try your luck - climb to the place where Matthew got stuck.

(Background information - on a trip to the park in the fall, Matthew climbed higher than he meant to and panicked when he reached the top. But his big brothers came to his rescue by helping him calm down enough to take the big slide down.)

After Michael remembered this (prompted by Matthew) we were off to the park!

And the top of the playground...

For the final clue...

Tenth clue: 2:30pm on the couch. Be there.

Oooookay...

We had some time to kill, so the boys played until they were nearly frozen...

Then we headed back home...

And the boys took advantage of the ten minutes left until the 2:30pm meeting on the couch to work more on the Millenium Falcon Lego.

Thank you Nana and Papa!

When Michael looked at his watch at approximately 2:28pm, he moved to the couch.

And waited...

And waited...

Then, after the longest two minutes of his life he heard a noise...

It sounded like something was ringing...

Behind the couch???

In the couch??

Yes!!!

His iPod Touch was ringing from inside the couch!

Awesome.

His daddy even pre-loaded it with his favorite games and locked everything down so that he can't do anything else that's fun.

Well, no internet surfing, in-app purchases, things like that, of course. He can text and he can email, though, as long as he's near wifi. So far he's been having a great time playing games, taking pictures, texting and emailing some of you, and reading with the Kindle app.

Since we all worked up an appetite on that hunt, we went out for the celebratory meal afterwords.  Then back home for cake!

Per the ten year old's request...a blue lego brick cake.

Look out Ace of Cakes.

Michael had a great tenth birthday! We really enjoyed having Papa visit for the weekend and "hanging out" with Uncle Chris and Sue on Google+.

Michael also appreciated all the packages and well wishes - thank you!
